On the front page of the Oregonian this morning I read this:
What is the Church? It’s not a location, not a building. It is people whose hearts are invoked by the spirit of God.
The article was about christians staying home on Christmas and a few churches that have cancelled their sunday services this week and encouraged people to stay home, worshipping with their families and celebrating the birth of Christ. I couldn’t really tell what the article was getting at other than to show that Christians don’t agree on staying home or going to church on a holiday. But I liked seeing that quote at the top and on the front page no less.
What is the church? The church is the collection of people who have called upon the name of Jesus, been saved from eternity in hell, made alive by the power of the resurrection of Christ, are being transformed into His image, acting as His physical body, and live in hope of seeing Him seated in glory, with all power and dominion. Jesus lives in and through these people because His Spirit is in them. Whether they celebrate His birth in the company of many other believers or with their family, or with their neighbors, they are the church.
That is true. I am first again. this is good for my ego!
Our pastor says that’s pooey. “Forsake not the fellowship of the bretheren”. I agree. What is an hour or two at the most on Sunday? What better day to meet with fellow believers and worship together on this recognized and set apart day for our Savior? But, it’s between each soul and God.
On that note, I lost my keys and didn’t get to church. 😕 Yah.
I’m also trying to bake a frozen 13lb turkey to bring to Jake. HAHA, yah right. It isn’t fun. I can’t get the innards and neck out. I tried baking it for 45min and then stabbing the innards till they were in small enough pieces to scoop out. I got grossed out when I stabbed the heart and it gushed. *BLAUCH* 😀 Merry christmas you two! And thank you for the cookbook! I guessed it was a cookbook when it came. I don’t really know how, but now that I look back it could have been because it was hard, large, and kinda felt like a book. heehee.
