Is harder than it looks. It’s harder than I thought it would be. And so far, the complexity of what we’re dealing with are basic physical functions – doing our best to keep the various bodily fluids off of the furniture and our clothing, feeding the insatiable hunger of a newborn and carrying the fickle noisemaker around. Yes, one minute, she is a beautiful angel, the most adorable thing you’ve ever seen. The next she is a red-headed wailer trying to convince the world that somebody is trying to kill her.
Whoever I told that I was going to get lots of reading and scrapbooking and housework and bookeeping done when I was “at home with the baby who won’t be able to do anything yet” should have laughed at me! I have never been so continually exhausted in my life. And yet…. as time passes and things get slowly better and better (she gets cuter every day and we become more proficient at mommy and daddy things) I think I will become like all other parents who eventually say, “it was all worth it.” Yes, I am falling in love!
Here is a different sort of story for you from the Davis front:
We thought we moved into a very boring neighborhood. Our neighbors on all four sides are old. Front and back we have oldies and to either side we have ancients. The neighbor to our left (who is so old he can’t possibly have a computer and see me talking about him… but maybe I am mistaken, he has surprised us already) is sickly. He seemed innocent enough at first – a gentle old man, deaf as a rock who likes dogs. We see him shuffle out to his mailbox every day and shuffle out with his garbage can every week.
Innocent enough.
A month or two ago we began putting our garbage cans on his side of our driveway on the sidewalk instead of our side of the driveway in the gravel. It’s easier to roll the garbage cans there, you know. Our neighbor, who shall remain nameless, does not seem to like this. Brian says that his garbage can has been moving closer and closer to ours every week, far from its original position way down the sidewalk. This is a range war (sidewalk war) and he is trying to pressure us out!
With Anna, we don’t always get our garbage cans back in right away.
Last week…. our recycle bin came up missing. We are watching this week to see if the neighbor has an extra.
We’ll keep you posted.
Those dang Neighbores. hehe.
so, i see. you come to my site and don’t even say boo. fine!
🙂
Rachel, It was fun to catch up on your new parenting experiences! I haven’t really been up to date since our little one was born. I’ll think of you now as I fall asleep nursing during the night and wake up with a sleep-deprivation headache. 🙂 It really is worth it, and they get better at the sleeping thing. We’ve found that if we can keep Liam awake for 5 hours of the day (at least) he sleeps a lot more at night. (He slept 7 hours the other night! I think it was a fluke thing, but it was great!) Have fun and keep enjoying that little girl!
