Of tubs and standing

But not of standing in the tub.

Tub first. A month or so ago, a friend was over visiting me at our house. She was enjoying full use of our modernly equipped bathroom (hehe) when she called out to me, “Wow, nice bathtub!” Read plenty of sarcasm into that.

Now at the time, I thought immediately how the home’s previous owners had painted a new finish on the tub instead of getting a proper porcelain finish. The “new” finish is peeling off and bubbling on the bottom of the tub. “Yeah,” I said to her, “it’s pretty ugly how it’s peeling isn’t it!”

A week later, while also enjoying full use of our modern bathroom, I looked at the tub. I really looked at it this time, not just a cursory “oh, it’s still there” kind of look. I realized that she probably wasn’t mentioning the paint peeling. It could have been the grime she was talking about, the black, caked, dirt on the thing. Why had I never noticed??? We’ve lived here almost a year and a half and I never noticed the grime slowly building up from the daily tromping of dirty feet in the morning.

I bought a scrub brush. I bought some “Scrubbing Bubbles” – they say they do the work for you and I figure that could only help. I sprayed. I scrubbed. I rinsed. I did it again. Wow. We have a mostly white tub under there! Even most of the loose paint-finish came off so it doesn’t look so nasty!

Now I just feel embarrassed that she saw it how it was. (you know who you are!) Can you believe I almost had Anna in that thing? Now I’m really glad that I had her on the bed instead.

On a side note, I told Brian last night that we can’t move from this house. “Why?” he asked. “Because there’s a spot of umbilical cord blood stained on the wall.” It’s just a speck. But it’s proof that the strange terrible and wonderful night of her birth did in fact happen. It wasn’t just a dream. 🙂 Ok, maybe you didn’t want to hear that.

Finally – on to standing. Here are some pictures:

Here is Anna modeling a cute pink diaper cover. She was doing the mermaid thing. Only with her legs and arms all directions. Silly girl.

Here is Anna being happy in her crib. Sweet little girl!

And here she is standing! I saw somebody else do this so I wanted to try:

Here she is enjoying a stale piece of pizza crust. Mmmmm

She is so sweet when she’s asleep.

Have you ever seen such a beautiful little girl?
