Moving to Vancouver?

This is the same post I put on my facebook:

Brian likes his new job. His new job offers lots of different areas to transfer within if he gets bored or gets a lousy boss.

He can commute for awhile happily, but not for forever.

We can try to move before this baby is born or after. I am going to have a really hard time leaving my friends. This is not going to get easier next year. Thankfully, we won’t be getting farther away from family… it should be about the same distance from them.

So, our newly-minted decision is to put the home on the market. We will see how it goes. We have to get a reasonable offer to be able to afford the costs associated with moving. Hopefully this decision doesn’t come as a huge shock to anybody.

We are content either staying here or moving. Moving means we will hopefully be able to put down roots, something we’ve never had in this home. Moving means losing the closeness with our good friends here. I’ve never had friends as good as here. I won’t forget how to use the phone or the instant messenger. Moving means the excitement of finding a new house and new hopes and dreams. Moving may or may not be financially possible at this point.

If we are to attempt a move for this spring or summer (before August comes and I am hugely pregnant) then we need to get the house listed very soon. We don’t have any huge construction projects to do, but we do have some significant cleaning and organizing to do to make the space look as clean and roomy as possible. I would accept any and all help to scrub the bathtub, clean the woodstove, scrub the stovetop, organize the loft, clean the carport, sort the bookshelves, etc! I also need somebody with an eye for decor to come and help me hang our pictures and move our furniture so it looks the best.

Thankfully, I am on day four of very manageable morning sickness. I am not 100%, but I am not stuck on the couch feeling green!!! It feels so good to have some function back!

So, what do you think? Are we crazy?

p.s. Here’s is our current first choice for a place to move to: MLS#: 9014449

    “It’s not easy being greeeeeen…”
Glad you aren’t green, or stuck on the couch.

I love moving. I love love love love love it! Tip one: WHITE, white looks clean, bright, sharp and spacious. Add touches of color to off set any starchness. Hang pictures SPARINGLY and don’t have them be of your family…let them be more generic so the viewers envision it as their house easier. Less is more- again so viewers see their things in place of your things and so the space looks larger and cleaner. And you may want to prime over your room walls and repaint with a more generic color as well. Empty cupboards of excess goods, clean out pantries— aka, make things look LARGER and more SPACIOUS.
I WISH I WAS MOVING!!!!!!!!!! You’ll settle in just fine in your new place even though it will be tough for the first bit. And preggo moving isn’t that hard at all. You can totally do it. (Of course, I didn’t already have a kid running around, I just had the one bouncing around in my tum-tum).

oh. and by white, I meant whiteS…neutrals with white. Like khaki walls with white trim. or beige…and Mirrors could work nice to replace art/pictures. Borrow! Stash your stuff at a friends house and borrow mirrors! Also you could think about stashing your sectional and borrowing a sofa or love seat…takes up less space and if it’s neutral colored even better! I don’t remember if you have window coverings but those help too- not drawn of course, but open…SHEER lets in light and is airy and space-conscious.
    More later.

And nick-knacks…get rid of them! (not permanently). Just out of sight of viewers. It’s not theirs, make that house theirs!

Emily, can you come to my house for a few days? Please!???

You don’t know how bad I want to come and do this!!!!!!!!! I was truly sitting here envious of you getting to do all this stuff. Do I want to be here, de-mildewing my tub? No, but I’ll come de-mildewify yours. Do I want to repaint all our walls? No, but I’d love to come do yours! Do I want to de-clutter MY house? No, but yours? Heck yes! Weird. Maybe cause it’s for a good cause like you MOVING, and for us it would just be because it needs to be done. BORING! 😀 I will be in town the 17-21 of March just so you know. Dropping Guy off and adjusting him to life without me for a week and a half. How did you (-) anna go? How did anna (-) mommy go? You said you’d tell me. 🙂
SO TELL ME! 😉 Did ‘trying not to be morning sick all conference long’ take priority of all your thoughts? If so, maybe that’s good cause you’d be sick with worry if you weren’t sick with baby. Babies are happier to be sick with than worry is cause you could get ulsers. The only thing being sick with baby gets you is sick and eventually a baby.

Are you done nursing? Because that will make a big difference in your comfort level for a week and a half! I did good on my two-nights away. It was nice to not be responsible for her needs or hear the whining or do housework. I was ready to come home though. Sounds like a good idea to practice with a shorter period first! Where will you be while you’re without Guy March 17-21? I mean, I’m sure you can come here!

Your paragraph about being sick made me laugh!

I’m still nursing, but stopping. Tonight he went to bed after drinking lots of water. “Are you sure? Don’t you want MORE water? GOOD! Drink more! More! More!” So slowly he’ll be weaned at night. Then wean at morning. So I’ve got a week or so to finish that.

I’d love to come by once or twice. I’m starting with being gone in the morning, then being there when he wakes up. Next day, being gone in the morning, when he wakes up and goes down for next nap, and being back when he wakes up. Then same thing next day. Next day (day 4) being gone all day come back to put to bed, they go to him if he wakes up at night, same thing day 5. Last day it’s all them. He don’t see me at all until I say good-bye and drive away trying not to cry. I don’t think I’ll cry. I may stay an extra day to adjust him cold-turkey to my parent’s house cause he’s staying there the first weekend, unless he does super good at adjusting to the cools’.
    That’s the game plan.

ps, what are anna’s measurements? Head, shoulder width, length from shoulder to knees, waist? I’m still just working on one quilt and one blankie so don’t measure her right away, but give me like 2 months and I should have finished everything enough to throw a jumper/summer dress in the mix.

Sounds like you don’t have much time to finish weaning! Set yourself a schedule and write it out and stick to it… or maybe you will run out of time and that would be really rough on both you and Guy if you were apart in that condition. Better not to have nursing/weaning be part of the travel stress.

So we are lucky because we stay overnight at Grandma’s house every once in awhile so she’s kinda familiar with the place. She gets to see them more, so she’ll get over her shyness quicker too. It’s funny – she likes Melissa right away. Guess it’s good we look alike! It was so funny – she said, “There’s Austin!” There’s Melissa! Then she pointed at Melissa’s big belly and said, “There’s Pillow!”

So hang in there Em! Let me know how it goes. You can come worry about him at my house. One thing that’s actually kind of fun is talking to them on the phone. That is, if they listen to ya.

A jumper would be so fun! And to her measurements would be awesome. She’s kinda tall and narrow for many of her jumpers. But that’s ok – they’re cute. Let me know when you’re ready for them and I’ll measure her!
