We went up to a vacation rental (vrbo.com) for three nights. It was refreshing, fun, and a success. The fun experiences we planned were all 0-5 year-old level and it’s good we didn’t try to do anything bigger. Turns out, 20 minutes in the snow on the side of a mountain on a beautiful sunny day is plenty! And a 2-person hot tub at the rental, a big deal. And a couple old Disney movies (Peter Pan and The Jungle Book), big adventures. The Jiffy Pop, a success. A walk around the golf course, a breathtaking hike.
It was the kind of vacation that is actually refreshing. It has helped us have a little perspective as we look towards “the daily grind” and try to make decisions to keep us all healthy – individually and as a family.
Tidbit: When we go to a restaurant, we ask for four seats, two high chairs, two kids menus and end up ordering food for three to be split among us.
Enjoy the pictures!
-
- I don't know why they call this a two-person hot tub.
-
- It fit four people very comfortably! We played in it every day!
-
- Look how big our little baby girl is getting!
-
- Ready for the mountain!
-
- Our view from the rental house/condo.
-
- We went up to Mt. Hood (Timberline Lodge) for some snow fun! Anna didn't want to sled - she wanted to roll! (something she later regretted, because she was just wearing rubber boots and snow got in them)
-
- Maggie and Jordan and Brian went sledding.... at least five times down the hill. 🙂
-
- This is what Jordan thought of sledding.... of snow.... of the whole "ordeal."
-
- Anna happily rolled around in the snow, taking little bites.
-
- Sledding was fun! (For most of us)
-
-
- Jordan climbed right into a chair by the fire inside the Timberline Lodge lobby. He was one unhappy little camper...
-
- The girls had had enough of being cold.
-
- BUT - there's nothing like a (ridiculously expensive) super, super, SUPER yummy buffet lunch to make everybody feel better!
-
- The staff at Timberline was really wonderful. We hope we will have the opportunity to go and stay at Timberline someday when everybody is older. We shall see - I haven't checked their lodging rates yet!
-
- And can you believe it? I gave Carolyn a big old crust of bread during dinner that made her REALLY happy!
-
- MMmmmm!
-
- Delicious!
-
- The incredible Timberline Lodge - a smashing success!
Sounds like a wonderful vacation. I used to be all about museums and sights and history and such while traveling, but now that I have two preschoolers I find that the best vacations are those that allow all of us to relax while experiencing something new and fun. Our trip to the beach last year was the best even though all we did was go back and forth on foot between our rental and the ocean. We hope to go again this year.
Also, I want one of those pudding cups or whatever they are.
What a lovely vacation! That sounds so relaxing and fun! I can’t believe how big Carolyn is already, it seems crazy that she is big enough to sit in a high chair!
Finally some pictures of your great family!! So happy to see them! Everyone seemed very happy except Jordan!! Happy house hunting!!
