Maggie can almost sit herself up

Update on Maggie Rae at 6 1/2 months old. She can sit up straight and strong… but tips over after a little bit. She can get up on her hands and knees and “rock”. She can pivot in circles while laying on her tummy. She can ALMOST sit herself all the way up from laying on her tummy. Sometimes she talks with “yeah-yeah’s” or “ba-ba’s” but she still mostly grunts. She is very easy to make smile or laugh.

First time sitting in the bath (we laid her down after just a few minutes – hitting her head on the side of the tub would not be fun!)

At the zoo! Here is Anna (3) and Addie (2 1/2). I just missed four playmates pushed up against the glass. See how Anna is tall for her age? She and Maggie have well visits with the Dr. next week… so we’ll see just HOW tall she is for her age then. I’m curious!

The sleep saga of Maggie. When she was 2-4 months old, she slept 3-5 hours at a stretch at night. Then she slept 3-4 hours at a stretch. Then 2-4 hours. Then 1-3 hours. Then 1-2 hours. At five months, we let her cry at night and fed her just once at night. She caught a cold one week in and by 2 weeks in (about) we gave up. It wasn’t worth the suffering.

After that, she slept about 3 hours at a stretch and I was ok with that. I needed a break with crying and 3 hour sleep chunks is very manageable. Well the 3 hour chunks started getting shorter again after a couple weeks. By this week, she was waking up every 2 hours about and I was getting tired. You know it’s time to try something when you get that grouchy feeling when they wake you up to feed them. The one where their little baby cries sound like a hideous demanding monster instead of a cute little baby.

Anyway, two nights ago we decided to feed her once between 12-1 and once around 4-5 in the morning. Night one I fed her at 11:30pm and at 3:30am. Last night I fed her at 11:30 and 4am. Yay! Night one she cried for a TOTAL of one hour. Hard crying for 40 minutes where she hated her pacifier and then finally went to sleep when she tried actually sucking at it. Then she fussed/cried for 20 minutes later in the morning. Last night she cried for 10 minutes the first time and then dozed/fussed for 40 minutes in the morning. Hooray! We have her in a pack-n-play in our bedroom so it’s nice to just roll out of bed every couple minutes to give her a pacifier. I think I’ll move her back to her crib tonight but bring a chair to her room so I don’t have to stand up.

This is “Rolley”. Anna named her. We got it out the other day in case we needed to sleep in the living room while Maggie cried. She keeps taking her to the dentist and hiding toys in “her.” The imagination of a 3-year-old. Having children brings life “to life” again!
