Vinnie – Last Days

It’s the last seven days of Vinnie’s fundraiser! We have $715 left to reach our goal… $285 already raised!

I have had the honor of talking with different families who wish they could adopt him… and they all wonder, “but how could we afford it?” It’s not that they don’t have the medical resources, the emotional fortitude, the room in their house, or the support of their family… it’s the money. People who are adopting have normal lives, normal expenses, normal children; they experience pay cuts, illness, and busy schedules. They are ready to bring a child into their home… a child forever. No longer an orphan, never again. But how can they manage it?

With the support of the church?

Please, donate to Vinnie’s grant. The chipin on the sidebar goes directly to his personal grant. Share his need. In hopes of getting more people involved, we have prizes to give away. Drop in and leave comments when you share the fundraiser on facebook or donate to his grant. Have some work to do? Drop into our auction here and every dollar you pay for your project will go instead to help bring Vinnie home, thanks to great sponsors.

Vinnie, we have not forgotten you!

(I can’t wait to see some meat on those little legs…)

November

It’s still looking good for Jordan coming home in November. That is my prayer! Little delays that take only a week or two to resolve… well, if we get a few of those, things will be pushed back. However, we expect to have our paperwork moved to the next step in a week or two… then we will hear when our court is scheduled. Praying court will be held in October!!!! (we can travel 2-3 weeks after court, I think!)

Purpose in Life

When my Grandma was getting rid of some furniture when she was moving, I was given a framed copy of “The Prayer of St. Francis”

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury,pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen

I thought it was beautiful then. But over the last several years as I have been lucky enough to be married and blessed enough to have two children who depend on me… I have found that this prayer describes the purpose in my life that gives me satisfaction. The purpose? To give of myself to others.

Now, before you think I’m very holy… or more likely, that I think I am holy… let me just tell you that I am a normal, sometimes-annoying, sometimes-frustrating, often bossy, imperfect person. I’m not trying to tell you that I have it all together. I’m trying to tell you what it is that gives me the deepest feelings of satisfaction: It’s loving others like God loves me. Now, that just feels good. And right.

I truly am happier when I succeed in joyfully putting others above myself. I feel so useless and empty when I’m without my children. Because I’m without my built-in “need-me’s.” They need me. I am blessed by being able to serve them. And I so very much want Jordan home. To need me. The up-all-nights, the crying, the stress…. totally worth it to know that he is going to have a family for the rest of his life, that frazzled, without sleep and all, we won’t ever abandon our quest to love him.

Go do something for somebody else today. You’ll be glad you did. (But if you fail today, eat chocolate and try again tomorrow.)

Awww

Poor little guy. Here is his picture that was taken for his VISA. Doesn’t look like he was too thrilled. Isn’t that sweet they put a little scarf on him? I can’t wait to scoop him up! Praying for a November homecoming! We CAN make it two more months! I keep telling myself that!

From Anna’s Point of View

Noting that it’s been 74 days since we last held Jordan. We’re waiting for signatures so our case can be sent to court.

I’m not going to try to be deep today! Here’s some description to our week and Labor Day weekend… photo blogged by our curious four-year-old!

Apple Honey and Applesauce (the were fuller, but boiled over, boo hoo!).

I always sit up this straight at my desk. (not really!)

There must have been thirty self portraits. I started coaching her on how to smile for them instead of staring up, doing the up-the-nose-zombie face. I thought this one was cute:

Anna and Razzie are good buddies:

So that’s what the back of my hair looks like!

Maggie woke up grumpy. Anna woke up creative…

She makes me smile! (has good aim too!)

Anna picked out some toys for Jordan’s crib…

A few pictures taken by me:
This is how I make spaghetti sauce. I use a hand blender/immersion blender to blend it up after. And yes, you can still see the tomato peels in the sauce, but it doesn’t bother me.

Dried plums and apples:

About half are done.

The dehydrator needs washing.

Thanks Grammy, for the squash! Stuffed squash is pretty good!

See?

Brian made a chicken run!

Happy chickens:

Proud chicken farmer:

Feathery pets:
