Maggie is two months old already!

Having a movie star for a big sister is so great!

Meanwhile, I seem to have a hard time getting anything done except reading books, rocking Maggie and trying to teach Anna (how to not throw tantrums). On a good day, Maggie sleeps well when she sleeps, is adorable and happy when awake, Anna plays happily and the dishes get done. On a typical day, I hold Maggie while sitting on the couch most of the day and get up to run laundry out, quickly wash a few dishes, kiss Anna’s invisible owies and read. And let’s not talk about bad days. Good and average days are very nice. We don’t need to revisit bad days. Right? Good. (Somebody tell the kids) I am still exercising three times a week, although I only did once last week due to my cold. Thankfully, that seems to be gone!

Time for Anna to watch Madeline, her latest favorite movie!

My last date…

Here we are on a great date with both my siblings and spouses just before Maggie was born. You can’t see the polka-dots on my dress, but I was doing a “round” theme. hehehe

I am SO GLAD to not be pregnant any more!

Christmas Letter 2009

I need to see if Brian wants to add anything to this! God has blessed us with fullness of life and so much joy here on earth.

At the beginning of this year we found out I was pregnant and early in October, Margaret Rae was born. Need I say more? We really enjoyed our year with “just Anna” and tried to enjoy her as much as possible while we were without distractions. She is getting to be such a big girl! From just learning to talk in January to long sentences, pronouns, adjectives, and some funny attempts at describing time (everything in the past happened “yesterday”).

Brian turned 26 last January and started his new job up at Bonneville Power. Friends and cousins had baby showers… and babies. We cleaned up the house and put it on the market and I started midwife appointments. Anna was potty trained… and un-potty trained. I started an exercise program… and dropped it… and picked it up again. My sister had her first baby! I picked a ton of blueberries and canned fruits until there were no more empty jars. We took the house off the market again and began craigslisting and rearranging for Maggie’s arrival. We went camping, to a rodeo and to the beach. I grew bigger. We froze dinners and waited for the big day. Maggie arrived, we ate lots of pizza (still are, matter of fact), and got the dog groomed. It was definitely time to get the dog groomed.

Now it’s December and the holidays again. Maggie is two months old, sleeping pretty well at night and a joy! She smiles with her entire body, just found her fists and loves to sleep in your arms. She’s grinning at the ceiling right now.

Anna is two and a half years old and full of vim and vinegar. She is alternately charming and infuriating. She dresses herself (except socks, which she insists are “too hard” although she comes out with socks on if it suits her), eats like a bird, and brings magic into our home. She has a vivid imagination which is easily encouraged. She will wander around the house making up games, talking to the air or to toys, and dressing up appropriately. She is our little princess. She can’t decide if she’s a “big girl” or a “little girl.”

I am exercising again and enjoying life. I’m a little short on sleep, but not too bad. It is really hard to get things done around the house with two kids wanting and needing mommy’s attention, time, and touch. It is difficult to hold two kids at once! I have so much to learn about taking care of two children. I’m looking forward to it.

Brian is my knight in shining armor as always. He’s working full time up in Vancouver and we’re looking forward to selling the house and moving closer. He keeps the wood coming into the house, builds a fire every morning, works all day and helps, loves, and encourages every evening. We love the weekends!

Looking forward to the future and enjoying today,

Brian, Rachel, Anna and Margaret Davis

For the Grandmas

Isn’t she great?

(She took the tent off her bed herself)

And I just wanted to share this one link:

Shoes

Brian thought it was worthwhile to take a picture of the shoes on the floor in the bedroom. Why? Because the ones on the floor are all mine. His are all on the shelf. Sigh.

Three frustrating things in my life right now:

1. I have a cold. I really hope Maggie doesn’t get it. It’s bad enough that Anna has it. It’s bad enough that I have it and am compromising my precious sleep.

2. Maggie has been crying in the evening for three days. She can go from 0 to 60 in the intensity of her crying in about two seconds. I don’t know why she does this. The only thing that helps is nursing. We keep trying different things. She normally eats about every three hours. Last night I fed her at 4, 6, 8, and 9. I think that’s right. She screamed a lot after about 7pm. Thankfully she slept until 12:30 and then til 5:30 after that.

3. Anna deliberately pees her undies to find out if she needs to go. She is dry one minute. I ask her if she needs to go. She pees. She says, “yes.” Will somebody else take over? She hasn’t had a dry day since summertime. And she was completely dry for months before that and stays dry at night, so I know she can do it. I’ve tried negative consequences and positive consequences. Hollie…. can I leave her with your mom while she’s visiting? She’s the potty training queen, right?

4. While I’m complaining…. I wish I had the next book in the series. However, the library system is down (online) so I can’t see if it’s at the library yet or still in transit.
