Carolyn Grace – Six Months!

Carolyn is six months old! YAHOO!! With the kids being young and me NOT being a super-hero, I knew that I would be pretty tired and stressed for awhile… starting when I was six weeks pregnant and feeling a-NOT-ok.

I am pretty proud of where we are today. Everybody knows they’re loved and safe… both parents are sane (as sane as ever) and getting a sustainable amount of sleep (though not ideal).

My little baby is almost sitting on her own. She is beginning to cut her first teeth.

And although she is not eating solids yet…. she is playing with them! (And I suppose she might be swallowing a bit of it)

Family Holiday

We went up to a vacation rental (vrbo.com) for three nights. It was refreshing, fun, and a success. The fun experiences we planned were all 0-5 year-old level and it’s good we didn’t try to do anything bigger. Turns out, 20 minutes in the snow on the side of a mountain on a beautiful sunny day is plenty! And a 2-person hot tub at the rental, a big deal. And a couple old Disney movies (Peter Pan and The Jungle Book), big adventures. The Jiffy Pop, a success. A walk around the golf course, a breathtaking hike.

It was the kind of vacation that is actually refreshing. It has helped us have a little perspective as we look towards “the daily grind” and try to make decisions to keep us all healthy – individually and as a family.

Tidbit: When we go to a restaurant, we ask for four seats, two high chairs, two kids menus and end up ordering food for three to be split among us.

Enjoy the pictures!

Dropping in

Just dropping in to say that:
Sleep = not enough
Kids = good and busy
Carolyn = five months old, going on six
Family = going on family vacation this week – pray it’s fun and not stressful.
God = faithful, even when I am tired and empty
Extended family = A&M are getting ready to move into their own house!

Exercising contentment.

Daily List

These are my priorities – these are what I try to get done every day. If you aren’t on the list… I’m terribly sorry, but I’m afraid you’re in the pile of “everything else.” I’m trying to be ok with that.

Get eggs/throw out chicken scraps
Wash/Dry/Fold/Put away laundry
Dishes
School with Anna
Any scheduled appointments/preschool
Exercise
Dinner

You’ll notice the things that are not on the list… that means they just have to happen anyway:
Hustle kids through chores
Breakfast and lunch
Diapers
Spankings
Makings up
Grocery and other errands
Showers and dressing
Nursing
Rocking to sleep
Kissing boo-boos
etc.

Things that aren’t on the list that I do every time I have a free moment:
Email friends
Check facebook
Return phone calls
Garden
Housekeeping projects
Visit friends
Etc.

I find it helps if I put my priorities up where I can see them. Then I don’t get behind on those… and then I don’t feel quite as bad when other things get left behind. Things that are getting left behind that are bothering me:

First and foremost: friendships
Returning phone calls
returning emails
Appointments that aren’t medical in nature
Filing 2012 papers
Making cheese
Reading extra books with the kids
Doing stuff (anything!) outside
ok, going to go back to priorities now… miss you!
