It’s not unusual in the Evangelical Christian world to talk about spiritual gifts. We talk about which ones God has given you, we challenge each other to use them, and we even take silly little “tests” that help us “discover” our spiritual gifts.
I read The Hiding Place this week, written by Holocaust survivor Corrie Ten Boom. I always thought this book was famous because of the time period it was written in. But it’s more than that. It’s a beautifully written and deeply moving book that has both challenged and inspired me. And, my dear non-Christian friends, it is the most beautiful testimony of God that I’ve ever witnessed.
Now I’ll go on a short bunny trail to put into words one thought that I’ve had off and on for a few years. Maybe we as Christians should not decide what we can or cannot do based upon the spiritual gifts/personality/abilities that we have. Maybe we should seek God’s purposes in our lives without so much thought as to our own capabilities. I know personally that God has asked me to do some things that are beyond my ability. And I know and testify that God has been my strength and my ability through those times. So don’t sell yourself and God short, friends; if God has called you to do something, He will make you able.
To God be the glory!
Amiena, and amen. Hope to read it sometime!
