She has dimples on her earlobes

Two little things we noticed about Maggie since she’s been born, besides that she’s been very quiet and sweet and easy this day and a half…

One, she has a little dimple on each earlobe, which looks like she has pierced ears a little higher than usual. I’ll have to get a picture sometime for you all.

Two, her big toenails look really funny… I think they just need to grow a little more. 🙂 They are normal and wide on the bottom (where they’re growing from) but grow in a sort of point at the end.

Ok – VISITORS! We’ve been able to have some people over and it’s been great! We’re going to have our first day with no helpers tomorrow (grandmothers are gifts!). On Saturday, we want to open our house to whoever would like to visit from 9am-12pm. Calling ahead to let us know you’re coming would be great… that or an email. See you soon!!!

We had a great evening with the whole family out – Austin and Melissa and Jackson (5 months) came out too!

Here’s Grammy and Pappy with their two little grandgirls:

Jackson looked like such a big boy!!! (They’re laughing at how Maggie’s little toes had poked through her blankie… which Grammy made for Anna 2 years ago!)

Here’s my Mom and Dad with all three grandchildren. Anna had had enough of all the pictures, but sat obediently:

Maggie’s first bathtime… if we thought she couldn’t cry more than a few seconds, she proved us wrong when we set her in the bath!

And you don’t want to ask, but I bet Kelly and Kelli start packing scissors in their midwifery bags.

Margaret Rae Davis
Born October 7th, 2009

Here is where we were when Mom and my wonderful midwives Kelly and Kelli arrived:

Contractions – ow!

More contractions… more ouch! We went from contractions every 8 minutes for about an hour to contractions every 1-2 minutes for the rest of the labor.

I really liked the pool – my muscles were so tired from being on my hands and knees during contractions. The contractions took a short break (maybe 4 minutes?) which I was sooooooooo thankful for and then they were super intense again.

A very happy moment!!!!! I didn’t pick her up immediately as she came out so that we could get the cord from around her neck… but the cord was fairly short so she did a somersault under the water before we figured it out! No worries – she was under warm water and didn’t try breathing until I had her out for several seconds.

No emergencies here. Melissa walked in immediately after she was born… only about one minute too late to see her birth:

Maggie cried very little and had very low muscle tone. We were worried about her struggling to breathe since she didn’t cry/cough much to get the mucus out of her lungs (she has been underwater for 9 months!). She had good color though so after an initial checkup, I nursed her for awhile and although she was still breathing wetly and not crying, she was moving around much more and nice and pink as you see here:

Moving her arms and being so sweet:

Anna slept through everything! I am so thankful for that. Since I felt like I was basically in transition for more than half the (very short) labor, I wouldn’t have been able to respond to her at all. Here she is coming to see that “Maggie came out!”

I’m not looking too cute, but Anna is. Brian and I had rested for an hour and a half at this point. Maggie was born at 2:51am and the midwives left about 5:30am… and this was about 7am.:

First of all, I had my very first episode of false labor the other night! With Anna, I never thought I was in labor when I really wasn’t. It was rather exciting and then rather disappointing… I had contractions for over 8 hours and couldn’t sleep through a lot of it. It’s still really exciting to me though, actually. Before that, I couldn’t visualize actually going into labor. Now it’s finally gotten through to my brain that I WILL actually be having a baby soon. For real. And soon! I’m stoked. Yay for babies! We’ll be giving you all the news soon complete with pictures! It’s not too unlikely that I will go overdue (due date is this Saturday) but I don’t really “feel” like I will go way overdue. Even if I did… that’s not far away! Yippee!

Best friends aren’t afraid to make you look ridiculous and then take a picture of you:

They get along with your kids too… and bring you chocolate and let you eat it while they distract the kid(s).

She also scrubbed my bathtub, helped me cook, sewed up some hankies for me (gonna experiment with cloth tissues) and filled my conversation tank. I so needed that. It was so great to talk with you Hollie!

We got to see Anna’s great-Grandma this weekend! It was so much fun – all of us siblings were there and mom and dad and Grandma too!

Uncle Kevin was there too! (No, he doesn’t have a diagnosed mental condition… he just likes Frankenstein movies)

And finally, here is Anna looking absolutely adorable in the hat and scarf I picked up at Walgreens this morning when we went for a walk:

Here are two videos of Anna talking on the phone while her friend Phoenix was over for a visit:
“Hello? Where are you? Ok. Bye.”

Part two:

p.s. I bought candy corn at Walgreens. It is not good for me. And yet, it is soooo good for me.
