Mexico, Rachel style

What a week!!! Ten of us went down to Mexico to see what the Lord would have of us. We met many people, did many things and the grace of our Lord was with us wherever we went. We flew down on Saturday, the 4th, and after long travels we arrived at John Haff’s at about 6 or so that evening. We almost immediately headed out for dinner, since everyone was hungry and so went to Gaston’s on the beach. John Haff was driving and told us he was taking the shorter, smoother road… well, if the sun was out you would have seen the horizon jumping and pitching as if we were out at sea, such was the road he picked. After a couple dead ends and mumbled grumblings to himself, we eventually turned onto what he had said was the bumpier road and things proceeded much more smoothly from then on and we arrived.

Gaston’s is a beautiful little log place on the coast… where they got logs, I don’t know since I never saw any trees except a few palms… and they serve delicious food. Gaston treated us with complimentary deep fried zucchini with tartar sauce, toasted buttered bread, and clams with melted butter. We all bought hamburgers or fish and chips and coke or lemonade. yummy! I then promptly let my head collapse on the table (shortly thereafter moved to Brian’s shoulder) while the others walked on a dark beach for ten minutes. I was sure glad to see bed that night!

Throughout this trip, Brian and I spent many precious moments together talking about our team, about Mexico, about ourselves and our struggles and most precious of all, praying together and being there with each other in the ways that count. After all, we had signed up to lead this trip and considering our inexperience, we needed God’s grace and humility in extra doses! All through the week, we had the most awesome experience as leaders and as brothers and sisters… we got to know each other so much better and deeper and God blessed us with a tight-knit group that hardly argued and complimented each other.

Sorry for the bad grammar and all – I’m having trouble finding words to express my thoughts and feelings.

The next morning we went to church at the dome church… but you are going to have to wait to hear about that, because it’s time to go to work. Wow… work… what a different world here! 🙂
