It’s not every 9 month old baby that can recognize a chocolate chip cookie from 20 feet away. Ok, the distance might be a little bit of an exaggeration, but Carolyn loves her some cookies.
Cut watermelon into little cubes to feed Jordan. Encouraged him to take a bite, then made him take a few more. Little boy was like a chipmunk with it all stuck in his cheeks. Fantastic coping skills there, son!
Maggie and Anna experienced ice cream bars for (I think) the first time yesterday when the neighbor kids shared. They came home messy and so happy! Anna explained multiple times how it was two chocolate graham crackers with three colors of ice cream in it. Yum!

The TV that I grew up with with a DVD player from an old friend…. equals a place for Jordan to watch Signing Time videos! Well, almost… right now he throws the dvd player and pushes buttons with his toes, but it’ll happen!

We went to the nearby river/park! It was a good adventure!
Jordan found it hard… he wanted to just run in…. all the way, you know? Discovered it was cold. And Papa stopped him. But he could still see the water and still wanted to run out into it. It was a confusing, conflicting half hour. Luckily, a half dozen refrains of Row, Row Your Boat, complete with rocking motions helped to calm him down.

Friends invited us to their new and beautiful home downtown! After church and a tasty barbeque, we went to the water fountain behind their house.

These two are buddies! They have a budding relationship. In the bath, Jordan steals her toys. (ha!) When Carolyn finally gets one, she tries to feed it to Jordan, but he can’t reach her because she’s so tiny. It’s pretty adorable.
This little girl reminds me so much of Calvin in Calvin and Hobbes. Not that it’s related, but this is a picture of her eating plain, cold black beans instead of delicious Chicken Javanese.
The Mellingers got to come for a visit!!!! So wonderful to catch up with them some. They all went for a tromp out through the field and down into the trees to the creek. Brian dutifully brought the camera, but he had a bizillion little kids with him and by the time he remembered to take a photo, they were all coming back and the kids were hot, tired and crying.

One of our wonderful neighbors offered us the housewarming gift of mowing our back lawn! SO NICE. It is not just as overgrown again, but no maze. That grass grows fast! That’s why we’re wondering how hard it is to tether a goat or sheep or something grass-eating. 🙂 We have a mower coming…. in four more weeks. Ah!

Chicken Javanese – my way:
Cook rice
Cook about 1 lb. chicken (cut up) and cook it with about 3 cups broth and 1/3 cup corn starch. More broth and corn starch for more sauce.
Assemble like this:
Rice, Chicken in sauce, shredded montery jack cheese (or other), crunchy chow mein noodles, chopped celery, shredded coconut (I prefer unsweetened), pineapple tidbits, diced tomatoes, diced green onions, chopped nuts.
It’s the taste of summer for me and very pretty. It is a lot of ingredients, but can obviously be modified. Very sad if the cheese or pineapple runs out, though! (serve hot)
